London (Eurotoday) – UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that discussions regarding Ukraine’s future must include Kyiv’s participation.
Nobody wants the bloodshed to continue. Nobody, least of all the Ukrainians,
he stated at the Scottish Labour Party conference in Glasgow.
But after everything that they have suffered, after everything that they have fought for, there could be no discussion about Ukraine without Ukraine, and the people of Ukraine must have a long-term secure future.
Starmer stressed that standing in solidarity with Ukraine is not only a moral obligation but also in the national interest of the UK.
Instability in Europe always washes up on our shores, and this is a generational moment,
he noted.
Starmer blank”>voiced his support for the U.S. and called on Europe to take greater responsibility for its security, affirming that the UK would play a leading role.
We have to be ready to play our role if a force is required in Ukraine once a peace agreement is reached, and we have to be ready to reshape our economy with industrial policy, to stand up for Ukraine, to stand up for Europe, but most of all to stand up for our security.
PM Starmer is set to visit the U.S. following in the steps of French President Emmanuel Macron, who is scheduled to meet with Trump exactly three years after Russia launched its attack on Ukraine. Both leaders aim to persuade Trump to avoid rushing into a ceasefire deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin, keep Europe engaged in the process, and explore military guarantees for Ukraine.
What did Trump say about Macron and Starmer’s efforts?
Two days earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed the efforts of French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, claiming they “haven’t done anything” to end the war in Ukraine.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump further asserted that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has “no cards” in peace negotiations, adding: “I don’t think he’s very important to be in meetings.”
During his Fox interview, Trump claimed that neither Russia nor Ukraine would initiate peace talks without his personal involvement.
He also took aim at Zelensky, stating: “I’ve been watching this man for years now as his cities get demolished, as his people get killed, as his soldiers get decimated.” Despite his criticism of Macron and Starmer, Trump also offered them praise, describing Macron as a “friend” and referring to Starmer as “a very nice guy.”

Oh, brilliant! Because after a year of chaos, what we really needed was a bold statement from Starmer saying Ukraine should join the party. 🎉 Who knew diplomacy could be so revolutionary? 🤦♂️
