Tucker Carlson’s recent interview with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov marks his second high-profile discussion with a top Russian official this year. Back in February, Carlson conducted a controversial interview in Moscow with President Vladimir Putin, which many criticized as being overly sympathetic to the Kremlin’s perspective.
In his conversation with Lavrov, Carlson explained that his intent was to showcase the “Russian perspective” on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Russia initiated a full-scale invasion of the country in February 2022, sparking widespread international condemnation and escalating tensions.
Carlson was sharply critical of the Biden administration’s approach to the war, accusing it of pushing the United States toward a potential nuclear confrontation with Russia—echoing a narrative often advanced by Moscow.
“Most Americans don’t realize it, but we are effectively in a hot war with Russia,” Carlson stated. He also criticized President Joe Biden’s decision to allow Ukraine to strike targets within Russian territory using American-made weapons, describing the move as bringing the U.S. “closer to nuclear war than at any time in history.”
During the interview, Carlson hinted at discussions on topics such as the implications of Donald Trump potentially returning to the White House for the future of the war. While he didn’t elaborate on Lavrov’s comments, Carlson referenced Trump’s past declaration that he could end the conflict “in 24 hours,” a claim the former president has repeatedly made.
