A signing ceremony for the “Middle East peace plan,” an agreement between Israel and Hamas to end the Gaza conflict, is expected to occur at the meeting. However, reports indicate that neither Israel nor Hamas will attend the summit.
On Monday morning, Hamas plans to release Israeli hostages in exchange for some prisoners freed by Israel, as part of the ceasefire deal reached on Thursday. Concurrently, Trump will visit Israel to speak at the Knesset before heading to Sharm El-Sheikh to attend the summit.
Sunday morning, trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered Gaza after the U.N. confirmed Israel had allowed aid to resume, contingent on the ceasefire’s stability.
European Council President António Costa will be present at the peace summit in Egypt, representing the European Union at the Middle East Peace Plan ceremony, as stated by his spokesperson on Sunday.
“The plan offers a real chance to build a just and sustainable peace, and the EU is fully committed to supporting these efforts and contributing to its implementation,” the spokesperson stated.
