A resident saw the fire and entered the building to help, trying to rescue anyone trapped inside the burning apartment.

What happened during the apartment fire in Ostend?

The rescuer later described his frightening experience of finding a victim in a smoke-filled apartment. He felt a hand on the ground, pulled it, and managed to get the injured man to the exit. He carried the man down the stairs on his shoulder. The victim had serious burns on his hands and face and was taken to the hospital but he died.
