Traffic Slows on E40 in Dilbeek Due to Roadworks and K3 Concert

Dilbeek (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – On Friday, October 3, 2025, E40 traffic in Dilbeek caused a delay due to ongoing roadworks and wet weather. Peter Bruyninckx reported minor disruptions, while the sold-out K3 concert added to evening congestion.

As GVA News reported, roadworks on the E40 in Dilbeek, part of the Brussels ring road, affected traffic heavily on Friday, October 3, 2025 and caused long delays in the evening rush hour. Earlier in the day, the roadworks had little impact. According to Peter Bruyninckx of the Flemish Traffic Centre, Friday evening always has a lot of traffic on the roads.

“But the traffic jams usually start after noon and end earlier than on the other four weekdays because everything is more spread out. But not today,”

Peter Bruyninckx said.

What caused the heavy E40 traffic in Dilbeek on October 3, 2025?

According to officials, even with the high traffic, no major accidents occurred. Only 2 minor disruptions were reported, involving a broken-down car on the Merksem viaduct and another on the E313.

“It was simply an exceptionally busy evening,”

Bruyninckx said.

Traffic was affected this afternoon due to ongoing construction on the safety barrier between the Quatre Bras and Léonard tunnels. The work, which started on August 17, 2025, has reduced daytime traffic to one lane in each direction, while tunnel access is restricted at night. Authorities say the project is expected to be completed by November 7, 2025.

Municipal authorities noted that the traffic problem is most likely to occur in October and November. This situation is exacerbated if there is rain. Traffic congestion was also caused by the sold-out K3 concert at the AFAS Dome in Antwerp, during which the original K3 singers, Karen Damen, Kathleen Aerts, and Kristel Verbeke, reunited for a concert tour that commenced in October 2025. 200,000 tickets were sold in the first 4 hours.

The Brussels ring road and E40 motorway have recently experienced enduring traffic disruptions. On September 27-28, 2025, the E40 was closed for 12 hours during the demolition of the Kortemansstraat/Jozef Mertensstraat bridge, and the closure created anticipated disruptions for the surrounding area as well.

Earlier, April 30 to May 4, 2035, roadwork during the construction between Leuven and Brussels also reduced the road to 2 lanes, which created disruptions. In July 2024, the E40 was closed in both directions after 2 lorries were involved in a fire of and the road toward Brussels was also closed for hours. This incident also recorded 1 fatality and 2 injuries.
