On 28 November just before closing at 7:45 PM, customers at the Colruyt in Antwerp South were shocked by loud firecrackers at the entrance. A worker said that suspects threw in three homemade bombs made of black sand and gasoline. No one was injured, but two people complained of ear problems and were checked by medical staff, according to police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns.

Customers and workers were surprised by the incident. “We didn’t expect this,” said a Colruyt employee. “The store filled with smoke, but everyone got out safely.” The police are investigating, thinking that fireworks and flammable materials were used. “We are treating this as an attack,” said Wouter Bruyns. Bomb disposal and forensic teams are at the scene.

The police haven’t found any suspects yet. They searched the area after the incident but found nothing. They are looking into a possible link to drug-related issues. Authorities mentioned that the police will stay alert in the coming weeks, especially with many reports of fireworks as the year ends. They will investigate everything carefully.
