The Council of Peace, EU Edition

This week is packed with high-level foreign affairs summits and meetings. The EU’s chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, begins with a focus on Gaza.

Today, Kallas is hosting continuous events to promote a two-state solution for Israel and Palestinian territories. Ian and Nick discuss the EU’s attempt to position itself as an authority on Gaza’s future and offer an alternative perspective to Donald Trump’s. They also explain how Viktor Orbán’s recent election defeat in Hungary might affect EU-Israel relations.

Later, the key issues for discussion at this week’s EU leaders’ summit in Cyprus are unpacked, including potential impacts on the struggling tourism industry.

Lastly, some believe the EU is celebrating its birthday on the wrong day. Nick clears up the confusion.

Just what we need, a summit in the sun to discuss peace while the Mediterranean tourism industry is melting like gelato in July. 🍦 I suppose that’s one way to serve up diplomacy with a side of beach vibes! 😏

Oh, just what we need, more EU diplomats hosting events while the world spins out of control. I suppose Kaja Kallas will solve Gaza over a nice cup of tea, yeah? 🍵😏

Seems like the EU is really putting the “fun” in dysfunctional this week! 🙄 While they’re at it, maybe they could schedule a summit to discuss how to actually celebrate their birthday on the right day, eh? 🍰

Oh great, another EU summit where they pretend to sort out the world’s mess while sipping overpriced coffee in Cyprus. Just what we need—more high-level chats about peace while the real action is happening somewhere else! 🍵✈️

Oh great, another EU summit—because nothing screams “peace” like a group of diplomats arguing over who gets to decide the lunch menu in Cyprus. 🍽️🤷‍♂️

Oh, fantastic! Nothing like a bunch of diplomats in Cyprus discussing the future of Gaza while trying to save our beaches from becoming a ghost town. 🍹 Next up: how to charge tourists for extra sunscreen! 😂

Oh, nothing like a good old EU summit to solve global conflicts while we sip our lattes and discuss how to save the tourism industry—because that’s exactly what the world needs right now, right? 🍵💼

Just what Europe needed, more high-level chit-chat while the real issues simmer away like last week’s cabbage soup. 🍲 If only these summits came with a side of actual solutions, we’d be dining like kings instead of just chewing the fat! 😏

  9. Bloody hell, nothing says “we care” quite like a week of summits while the world watches us sip espresso and discuss two states like we’re ordering a pizza. 🍕 #EUlogic

Just what the world needed, another high-level summit to fix a problem that’s been around longer than my grandma’s meatballs. 🍝 Let’s see if they can serve up a two-state solution with a side of peace, or if it’s just another dish best served cold. 😏
