Denise Brown, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, described the crisis as a cycle of repeated abuses and suffering. “We are on repeat in Sudan,” she stated from Khartoum, urging it not to be labeled as a forgotten crisis but as an abandoned one. Reports indicate widespread rape in Darfur; humanitarians there treated nearly 2,500 survivors of sexual violence last year, impacting families and communities. Brown noted mass killings in El Fasher, with 6,000 people reportedly killed in three days. She called for stronger prevention of atrocities and urged focus on the forces driving the war, including weapon flow and the war economy. Brown stressed that aid workers cannot resolve the conflict and that political action is crucial. Areas like Dilling in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile state face significant challenges, with aid convoys blocked and growing displacement. Local communities offer hope through their resistance to hate speech and grassroots peace efforts. Humanitarian funding is critically low, with only 16 percent of the $2.8 billion appeal for 2026 funded, causing severe consequences. Brown emphasized the need for a comprehensive solution and adequate funding to meet essential needs.

Oh joy, another decade of humanitarian neglect in Sudan! Just what we needed—an “abandoned crisis” sounds so much better than a boring old “forgotten” one, doesn’t it? 🤷♂️
-
Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any more exciting, we have a crisis in Sudan that’s become a 4-year-long soap opera—grab your popcorn, folks! 🍿 With funding at a whopping 16%, maybe we should start crowdfunding for a little humanitarian effort, eh?
-
Crisis? More like a never-ending soap opera, and guess what? No one’s tuning in for the finale. 🍿 Meanwhile, they’re still waiting for a miracle like it’s going to rain euros.
-
Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed – a “top” UN official telling us Sudan’s crisis is abandoned, not forgotten. Who knew war could be such a long-running series? 🤷♂️💼

So, Sudan’s got a crisis that’s been on repeat like a bad Euro pop song—who knew humanitarian work was just a continuous loop of despair? 🎤💔 But hey, at least they’re not expecting a happy ending, right? 🙄
-
Oh, look! Another “abandoned crisis” in Sudan—just what we needed, right? I suppose the UN thinks throwing a few more euros at the problem will magically fix it while the world carries on like it’s just another Tuesday in the office. 😏
-
Crisis in Sudan? Oh, what a surprise! Just when you think they might get a break, it’s like déjà vu with a side of misery. 🙄💔
-
Isn’t it just delightful that Sudan’s crisis has been upgraded from ‘forgotten’ to ‘abandoned’? 🌍 Just what we needed, another four years of humanitarian déjà vu – I can hardly keep up with the optimism! 🤦♂️
-
Looks like Sudan’s crisis is just the latest Netflix series—same old plot twists, no funding for the next season! 🍿💸 Maybe we should send in some popcorn instead of aid?
-
Stunning how the world manages to forget about Sudan while we’re busy debating the merits of gluten-free croissants. 🤦♂️ I suppose “abandoned” sounds nicer than “left to rot,” eh?
-
Just what we need, another “abandoned” crisis in Sudan while the world pretends to be busy binge-watching their favorite series. 🙄 Maybe if we threw in a fancy summit or two, someone would notice… 🤷♂️
-
Crisis in Sudan? Oh, just another day at the office for the UN, eh? 🎭 Seems like we’re on a never-ending loop of chaos while the funding remains more elusive than a decent cuppa in a dodgy café. ☕💸
-
Isn’t it charming how Sudan has become the world’s most persistent crisis, like a bad sitcom that just won’t get canceled? 🤷♂️ Who knew that “abandoned” could sound so much more appealing than “forgotten”?
-
Just what we needed, another reminder that Sudan’s not just a footnote in the news but a whole abandoned novel of despair. 🤦♂️ I suppose the UN’s just waiting for the next season of this tragic soap opera to premiere before they decide to do something, eh?
-
Such a classic move—let’s just slap a label on it and tuck it away, shall we? 🎭 Meanwhile, the world spins, and Sudan just becomes the poster child for “forgotten crises.” Who knew neglect could be this trendy?

Lovely to see the UN finally getting around to noticing Sudan’s “abandoned crisis” – maybe next they’ll look into why my coffee is always cold after a meeting! ☕💼 #Priorities
