Stockholm – US President Donald Trump continues to insist on his demand for Greenland to be incorporated into the United States.
On Monday, European leaders responded with strong statements.
Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen opposed Trump, urging the US to cease threats against a historically close ally that has “very clearly stated they are not for sale.”
Earlier, on Sunday, Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed his support on X, stating: “Only Denmark and Greenland have the right to make decisions regarding Denmark and Greenland. Sweden fully supports our neighboring country.”
The EU Commission indicated that it expects its partners to respect the principle of territorial integrity.
“The EU will continue to uphold the principles of national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of borders,” said the Commission’s foreign policy spokesperson Anitta Hipper.
“These are universal principles, and we will not cease defending them, especially if the territorial integrity of an EU member state is questioned,” she added.
