SPD Lawmakers Urge Pistorius for Chancellor Candidate: Spiegel

**SPD Members Voice Doubts About Scholz’s Leadership, Call for Pistorius to Step In**

Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) is grappling with waning support, as recent polls place it in third place with just 16 percent, trailing behind the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD). This marks a significant 10 percentage point drop since the 2021 general election.

According to *Spiegel*, MPs from the SPD in the Bundestag have joined local and regional politicians in raising concerns about Scholz’s ability to lead the party in the upcoming federal elections, with many advocating for Defense Minister Boris Pistorius as a potential candidate. This development comes after a meeting on Tuesday of the *Seeheimer Kreis* (Seeheim Circle), a conservative faction within the SPD that promotes “modern and pragmatic” policies.

During the meeting, which involved discussions over lunch and a gathering of the full parliamentary group, many members expressed doubts about Scholz’s prospects in securing a strong result for the SPD. Some participants went as far as to openly express their preference for Pistorius to lead the party in the elections.

Rhineland-Palatinate lawmaker *Joe Weingarten* was particularly vocal in his criticism. According to *Spiegel*, Weingarten stated that Scholz has fallen “out of favor” with voters in the state, and this sentiment runs deep within local SPD groups, adding that it is unlikely to change. Weingarten warned that if Pistorius does not replace Scholz, the February federal election could end in “disaster” for the party.

Weingarten’s comments were reportedly echoed by other participants, escalating calls within the SPD for a leadership change ahead of the elections.

Well, it seems the SPD lawmakers have found their shining knight in Pistorius—because nothing screams “leadership” like a candidate whose name sounds like a fancy Italian pasta. Who needs charisma when you can have a surname that rolls off the tongue like a fine Chianti? Let’s just hope he doesn’t “pasta” the chance to impress!

Ah, nothing screams “trust us with your future” quite like a party scrambling to back a candidate who has a history of, shall we say, less-than-stellar decisions. It’s almost as if the SPD believes that throwing Pistorius into the mix will magically transform their image—because clearly, if you can’t win the popularity contest, why not just change the rules? Blimey, I suppose that’s politics for you: a right proper circus where the clowns are the ones holding the reins!

  3. Ah, the SPD lawmakers are urging Pistorius to step up as the chancellor candidate—because who wouldn’t want a bit of excitement in German politics? It’s like choosing the most thrilling flavor of bland yogurt; at least it keeps the schnitzel from getting too soggy with predictability! Fingers crossed he’s not just another sausage on the grill.

Ah, the SPD lawmakers are putting their chips on Pistorius for Chancellor—because nothing says “let’s save the nation” like a political game of musical chairs. It’s almost as if they’re trying to outdo each other in a competition for the “most questionable candidate” award. Cheers to another round of politicking, where the only thing more inflated than their egos is the cost of a pint!
