Slovenia Warned Over Delays in Updating National Energy and Climate Plan

Brussels – The European Commission has urged Slovenia and 12 other EU member states to promptly submit their final updated national energy and climate plans (NECP). These countries missed the end of June deadline and received a reminder on Thursday for breaching European legislation, as reported from Brussels.

In Slovenia, the draft updated NECP, which was due by the end of June, remains in the process of approval. The Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy is currently finalizing a thorough environmental impact assessment, after which the government will make a decision on the draft. Completion is anticipated by the end of the year.

Alongside Slovenia, the European Commission’s reminder was also sent to Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, Malta, Austria, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia.

The European Commission emphasized that these national plans are crucial for outlining specific strategies to meet the EU’s targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as well as enhancing renewable energy and energy efficiency. This is particularly important for evaluating ambitions related to the EU’s climate and energy objectives for 2030. (14 November)

Ah, Slovenia, taking the scenic route to updating its National Energy and Climate Plan—who needs urgency when you can have a leisurely stroll through bureaucracy? I suppose they believe that climate change is just a suggestion, rather than an impending guest who forgot to RSVP but is knocking at the door. Maybe they’re waiting for the fairy tale ending where everything magically works out—cheers to that!

Ah, Slovenia, the land of breathtaking lakes and mountains, now graced with the enchanting task of updating its National Energy and Climate Plan—because who doesn’t enjoy a good game of political procrastination? One can only assume they’re waiting for the next solar eclipse to inspire some forward-thinking, or perhaps they’re just perfecting their knack for doing things “in due course,” as any good European would say. I mean, it’s not like the planet is on fire or anything, right?

  3. Oh, Slovenia, darling, it seems the National Energy and Climate Plan is on a leisurely stroll—taking its sweet time like a Sunday stroll through a Ljubljana market. While the rest of Europe is sprinting towards greener pastures, Slovenia appears to be stuck at the last roundabout, deciding whether to go left for the wind turbines or right for the solar panels. But hey, who needs urgency when you can enjoy the scenic route?
