Kiev – During her visit to Kiev, Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon signed an agreement on technical and financial cooperation with Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachko. This agreement aims to assist Ukraine in implementing reforms aligned with its EU aspirations. Fajon also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Fajon and Zelensky highlighted the need for an immediate ceasefire and increased pressure on Russia. They discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts towards achieving a fair and acceptable peace for Ukraine.
“Only Ukraine can determine its future. No solution can be accepted without its involvement,” the minister stated, while also addressing the European integration of Slovenia with President Zelensky.
In this context, Fajon signed a memorandum for technical assistance to Ukraine with the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksiy Kuleba and the aforementioned agreement with Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachko.
The Slovenian government noted that the agreement focuses on supporting Ukraine’s economic and social development and reform implementation as it seeks EU integration. It outlines the conditions for Slovenia to provide technical and financial assistance for development initiatives aimed at rebuilding infrastructure, enhancing energy efficiency, protecting the environment, improving public finance management, fighting corruption, and advancing science, innovation, healthcare, education, and civil society.
“This will enhance our cooperation, boost the effectiveness of our development aid, and establish a robust foundation for a long-term partnership in Ukraine’s reconstruction and development,” Fajon remarked.
The minister wrapped up her four-day visit with a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, who expressed gratitude for Slovenia’s support. (October 30)
