Slovakia Movement Submits Complaint to European Prosecutor’s Office and EC Over Fraudulent Agricultural Subsidies

Bratislava – Opposition MPs from the Slovakia movement held a press conference on Wednesday, stating that Eurofund subsidies, distributed through the Agricultural Payment Agency (PPA), have been misallocated to accommodation facilities that do not align with their intended use. They emphasized the need to lodge a complaint with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) regarding the alleged misconduct of government officials, as reported by TASR.

The MPs noted that these funds from the European Union were clearly misused.

Veronika Remišová, an opposition MP and former Minister for Investments and Regional Development, brought attention to the issue and announced her intention to file a complaint with the European Commission.

“There is a convoluted system of subsidies benefiting individuals connected to PPA officials. Is this really how European funds designated for tourism development are utilized? Accommodation facilities masquerading as guesthouses that are essentially private homes? This is a scandal and a violation of European law,” Remišová declared.

The opposition highlighted specific cases, such as a villa in Limbach that received €200,000 in agricultural subsidies. Although intended to function as a guesthouse, it is currently used for private purposes, the lawmakers asserted.

Furthermore, former Interior Minister Roman Mikulec (Slovakia movement, KÚ, For the People) noted that the daughter of a PPA employee received €150,000 for the construction of a quasi-guesthouse, which is now being utilized as a private residence. “We could uncover many similar instances across Slovakia,” he stated, urging citizens to report any suspected misuse of subsidies by “local elites,” emphasizing that “these practices should not occur in Slovakia.”

Juraj Novocký, a member of the EPPO and European prosecutor for Slovakia, pointed out in an interview with the Euractiv portal on April 16 that following personnel changes at the PPA after the last parliamentary elections, both the quality and quantity of criminal complaints submitted by the agency to the EPPO have noticeably declined. Looks like Slovakia’s agricultural subsidies are being more creatively allocated than an art exhibit in a posh gallery! 🎨💸 Who knew a villa could double as a guesthouse and a private jaunt? Typical, innit? 🤦‍♂️

Oh, look at that! Seems like some folks thought “agricultural subsidies” meant “let’s fund our holiday homes.” 🤔 Truly, who needs a guesthouse when you can have a villa? Brilliant, isn’t it? 😏

Isn’t it delightful to see funds meant for uplifting the countryside being funneled into backyard villas? 🤦‍♂️ Who needs guesthouses when you can have posh private getaways instead, eh? Classic Slovak ingenuity at its finest! 😏

Oh, splendid! Who knew that agricultural subsidies were just a fancy way to fund someone’s holiday villa? 🏖️ One can only hope this is not a widespread trend, or we’ll have to start calling it the “Slovakian Riviera” instead of a farming initiative! 😂

Oh, brilliant! Who knew that agricultural subsidies could double as a get-rich-quick scheme for the elite? Maybe we should just hand out EU funds in a private raffle next time—seems like less hassle, eh? 😂💸

Oh joy, just what we needed—a masterclass in how to turn agricultural subsidies into a private villa fund! 🍷 Bravo, Slovakia, I hope they at least serve nice wine in those “guesthouses.” 🍇

Oh, lovely to see our tax euros being funneled into luxurious villas instead of actual guesthouses—who knew “agricultural subsidies” could double as a real estate investment? 🍷🤷‍♂️ At this rate, I might just apply for a subsidy to turn my flat into a five-star resort!
