Bratislava – The Slovak Republic’s Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization (MIRRI) is dedicated to enhancing life in various regions through continued support for development projects. Recently, the ministry has finalized agreements for 11 new initiatives, totaling over 6.1 million euros, funded by the Slovakia Program from the EU. These projects aim to beautify public areas, modernize schools, establish new sports facilities, and increase greenery and water features in cities and towns throughout Slovakia, as reported by TASR.
“Investing in schools, playgrounds, and parks is not merely about constructing buildings and installing benches – it’s a commitment to children, communities, and the overall quality of life in our regions. We aspire for residents to enjoy a better environment and for children to learn in spaces that meet contemporary standards. These projects are vital as they merge modern education with quality public spaces – embodying the Slovakia we aim to build,” stated Minister of Investments Samuel Migaľ (independent).
As reported by the ministry’s press office, the funding will support various endeavors across seven of Slovakia’s eight territorial self-governing units.
The projects will benefit cities and areas including Bratislava, Trnava, Prievidza, Šurany, Žilina, Zvolenská Slatina, Rimavská Sobota, Snina, Medzilaborce, and Topoľovka. They are designed to foster community education and recreational activities, facilitate the renovation and creation of sports and leisure zones, and enhance greenery in public spaces, contributing to a healthier environment with reduced noise and improved community interaction. Several initiatives focus on renovating schools by adding sports and recreational areas, upgrading school gyms, modernizing Primary Schools with Kindergartens, or establishing so-called SMART schools for the 21st century.
Additionally, EU funds through the Slovakia Program will be allocated for the renovation of residential buildings, the restoration of the Small Castle, a historical monument in Snina, and the revitalization of the surrounding area of the Andy Warhol Museum in Medzilaborce, which is the only museum of its kind in Europe.
