Slovak Prime Minister Fico Called Newly Elected European Council President Costa

Bratislava – On Monday, December 16, Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico engaged in a phone conversation with the President of the European Council, António Costa. Fico expressed his appreciation for Costa’s proactive approach in negotiating the draft conclusions of the European Council ahead of the scheduled meeting on December 18 and 19, as reported by the press office of the Slovak Government Office.

Fico emphasized Slovakia’s commitment to preserving gas transit routes between Ukraine and EU member states.

“The maintenance of transit cannot just be a bilateral matter of the countries neighboring Ukraine, but a concern for the entire EU,” he stated.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that he would discuss the transportation of gas to Slovakia through Ukraine during a phone call with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal later that evening.

Additionally, Fico reiterated Slovakia’s support for the enlargement of the European Union to include new members, highlighting Serbia’s significant role in addressing illegal migration as deserving special backing.

He insisted on the importance of an objective assessment of the current situation in Georgia, declaring that any consideration of intervening in Georgia’s internal affairs by imposing sanctions is unacceptable. Fico also plans to address the issue of perceived double standards regarding the rule of law among different EU member states during the upcoming discussions.

Oh, lovely to see Fico on the phone, doing his best impression of a concerned neighbor while the EU plays musical chairs with gas supplies. I’m sure his chat with Costa was just riveting—two blokes solving the continent’s energy woes one awkward conversation at a time! 😂💼

Seems like Fico’s got the EU bingo card all filled out—gas transit, enlargement, and dodging sanctions as if he’s at a fancy cocktail party. 🍷 Who knew being prime minister was just a series of phone calls with a side of political gymnastics? 😂

Oh, how charming! Nothing says “let’s keep the gas flowing” quite like a cozy phone chat between Fico and Costa—next, they’ll be planning a romantic dinner with candlelight and a side of bureaucracy! 😏💼
