Prosecutor Tom Jansens pointed out a worrying pattern, each woman remembers being offered a drink, usually a shot that tastes like almonds, similar to amaretto. This is concerning because that flavor might hide the taste of drugs often used in sexual assaults. The women reported losing their memory after drinking, waking up the next day with no memory of what happened, often with bad headaches and signs that they had sexual encounters. They mentioned that this has led to serious investigations to ensure the safety of women in the nightlife scene.

Several young women were reportedly drugged in cafés on Burgemeester Reynaertstraat, a popular nightlife street in Kortrijk. Some were also targeted in other bars.
