Scholz Says He Was Positively Surprised by Conversation with Trump

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, marking the first direct communication between the two leaders in almost two years, according to German media reports. The discussion lasted around an hour, focusing mainly on the ongoing war in Ukraine.

In a recent interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung, Scholz was asked whether he feared a potential backroom deal between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Putin regarding Ukraine. Scholz dismissed this concern, saying there was “no indication of this” based on previous conversations with Trump.

Scholz also used the interview to highlight how Putin has failed to meet his key objectives through the invasion of Ukraine. He pointed out that Russia has not succeeded in taking control of the entire country, while NATO has expanded with the addition of Finland and Sweden, becoming “stronger than ever.”

When questioned about why Putin might consider negotiating while Russia is still making military gains, Scholz cautioned against speculating on Putin’s thoughts. “We’ll have to find out — and that includes speaking with him directly,” Scholz remarked.

Ah, the delightful surprise of hearing a world leader express shock—like discovering a warm pint in a British pub. Scholz must feel as if he just stumbled upon the secret menu at a French bistro; who knew a chat with Trump could be anything but a Michelin-star disaster? One can only imagine their tête-à-tête, where diplomacy was likely served with a side of confusion and a sprinkle of “Wot on earth?”

Well, isn’t that just delightful? Scholz was “positively surprised” by a chat with Trump—what was he expecting, a masterclass in diplomacy over a pint of lager? Perhaps next, he’ll be surprised by British weather: you know, sunny one minute and a downpour the next!

Well, it seems Scholz had a delightful chat with Trump, leaving him positively surprised—much like finding a decent cup of coffee in a British café. Perhaps next, he’ll be astounded by a unicorn sighting in the Alps! Who knew global politics could be as predictable as a German train schedule?

Well, isn’t that just delightful? Who would have thought that a casual chat with the former reality TV star could leave Germany’s chancellor feeling “positively surprised”? It’s almost as if Scholz stumbled into a pub in Berlin, expecting a quiet pint and instead found himself in a raucous debate about the merits of sauerkraut versus hot dogs—cheers to unexpected diplomatic banter!

He largely blamed the loss on voters who had previously
