Riyadh (Eurotoday Newspaper) – Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday that it executed two citizens for joining a terrorist group. This group planned to attack places of worship. The two men also intended to target security facilities and personnel, according to a report from the Saudi state news agency SPA, which cited a statement from the interior ministry.
Saudi Arabia has carried out a shocking number of executions for drug crimes in the past decade in the Middle East. Most of these executed individuals were foreign nationals, according to Amnesty International.
How many people has Saudi Arabia executed this year?
Saudi authorities executed 17 people in August 2025. The official Saudi Press Agency reported that two Saudis were put to death for “terrorist crimes,” while 15 others, mostly foreigners, were executed for drug offences.
This marks the fastest pace of capital punishment since March 2022, when 81 people were executed in one day for terrorism-related offences, leading to widespread condemnation. In 2016, Saudi Arabia carried out 47 executions, which was the country’s largest mass execution since 1980.
Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s biggest users of the death penalty, has carried out 242 executions this year. The conservative country is set to exceed last year’s total of 338. That number was the highest since public records began tracking cases in the early 1990s.
How has Amnesty International reacted to Saudi Arabia’s executions?
Almost 600 people have been executed in the past decade for drug-related offences, according to Amnesty International. Three-quarters of these individuals were foreign nationals from countries such as Pakistan, Syria, Yemen, Nigeria, and Egypt.
After a temporary pause on drug-related executions between 2021 and 2022, the numbers surged to record highs. There were 122 executions in 2024 and 118 so far this year, up until the end of last month.
With little international oversight of what Amnesty calls “grossly unfair trials” and a “chilling disregard for human life,” the rights organisation warned that the death toll will likely continue to rise.

Quite a novel approach to counter-terrorism, isn’t it? I suppose when you’ve got a few more executions than holiday brochures, it really makes you the “go-to” destination for extreme justice! 🤷♂️

Not sure what’s more shocking, the number of executions or the fact that some still think this is a suitable model for modern governance. 🤷♂️ Talk about a real-life horror show, eh?

Seems like Saudi Arabia is just trying to set a new world record for the most executions in a year. Who needs a peaceful society when you can have a scoreboard, right? 🙄

Execution for “terrorism”? Seems like a rather enthusiastic approach to community policing, doesn’t it? Just what every nation needs—a lively competition in the death penalty league! 😂
-
Just when you thought they were taking a break, Saudi Arabia reminds us that executing citizens is their version of a weekend getaway. 🤷♂️ Nothing quite says “we value human life” like a record-breaking year in capital punishment, eh?
-
Seems like they’ve taken the whole “an eye for an eye” thing a tad too seriously over there, eh? Next time, maybe they should just stick to a bit of light reading instead of heavy-handed justice. 🙄💼

Seems like Saudi Arabia’s really trying to set some sort of world record for executions, eh? 🎉 Maybe they should add a “Terrorism Olympics” to the mix—gold medals for all! 🥇😏

Nothing says “justice” quite like a busy execution schedule. Honestly, I thought they were just working on their tourism brochure! 😂

Oh, splendid! Nothing screams “progress” quite like executing your own citizens – it’s like a twisted game of “who can be the most extreme”. Guess that’s one way to keep the population in check! 😏

Two citizens executed for terrorism? How original! I suppose that’s one way to keep the population’s enthusiasm for democracy in check. 🤷♂️

Another day, another execution in the land of sand and oil. Makes you wonder if there’s a promotion for “Most Creative Use of Capital Punishment” in the annual awards show, eh? 🤷♂️💼

Another day in paradise, where the death penalty is the main attraction! 🤷♂️ Who needs a proper judicial system when you’ve got efficiency like this? 🗡️

Two executions for terrorism? I’m just tickled pink that the Saudis have found an efficient way to reduce their unemployment rate—who needs a job when you’ve got a death sentence? 🤷♂️💼

So, it seems Saudi Arabia is really going for that “most executions in a year” record—talk about a twisted form of national pride! 🥇🔫 Maybe they should add a trophy for it, eh?

Incredible, isn’t it? Only in a country where “freedom of choice” means executing the wrong opinions can one find such innovative methods of conflict resolution. 😂✌️
