Russian Patriarch Kirill Criticizes Halloween Holiday

Patriarch Kirill Criticizes Halloween and Warns Against Neo-Paganism

In a recent speech, Patriarch Kirill, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, voiced strong opposition to what he views as a resurgence of paganism in contemporary society. He expressed concern over efforts to “revive paganism,” particularly noting its influence in certain “military circles” within Russia.

The patriarch also criticized Nataliya Poklonskaya, a former chief prosecutor of Crimea and current member of the State Duma, for celebrating the Gaelic festival of Samhain. Poklonskaya had shared photos on her Telegram channel wearing Celtic clothing and face paint in honor of the festival, which Kirill saw as a troubling sign of neo-pagan influence.

Additionally, Patriarch Kirill condemned the ongoing celebration of Halloween in Russian schools. He argued that some schools disguise the Western “toxic” holiday under Slavic-themed names, further diluting traditional values.

“This replacement of values, the falsification of national history, and the diminishment of Christianity’s role in shaping our nation’s statehood is, in a sense, a challenge to the true values of the Russian world,” Kirill declared, emphasizing the importance of preserving the nation’s Christian heritage.

  1. Ah, the ever-so-pressing issue of Halloween, where ghoulish costumes and sugar-induced chaos have clearly overshadowed more pressing matters, like, oh I don’t know, the price of borscht? Patriarch Kirill’s critique surely gives us all a reason to trade our pumpkins for piety—because nothing says ‘spiritual enlightenment’ quite like a good scare on a chilly October night, right?

Ah, the Russian Patriarch Kirill, our resident Halloween expert, has decided to weigh in on the holiday with all the enthusiasm of a cat at a dog show. Clearly, nothing says “spiritual authority” quite like denouncing a day dedicated to dressing up as ghouls and munching on sugary treats—because who needs joy when you can have judgment? One wonders if he’d prefer a good old-fashioned Puritan party instead; at least they wouldn’t have to worry about any cheeky pumpkins!

Well, who would have thought that a man draped in robes would take issue with a holiday known for dressing up like ghouls and knocking on doors for sweets? Clearly, Halloween’s ghostly shenanigans are far too frivolous for the solemnity of a patriarchate—next, they’ll be banning chocolate bars for being too indulgent! Cheers to Kirill for keeping us all spiritually grounded while we try to enjoy a bit of harmless mischief; nothing like a good scare to remind us of the real horrors of life… like waiting for the bus in the rain!

Ah, look who’s taking a break from the serious business of geopolitics to tackle a pressing issue: Halloween! Because nothing screams “moral high ground” quite like criticizing children for dressing up as ghosts while ignoring the actual ghouls in politics. Cheers to Kirill for reminding us that the only masks we should wear are those of piousness—who needs a good fright when you’ve got ecclesiastical drama, right?

Ah, Russian Patriarch Kirill’s latest crusade against Halloween—because nothing screams “spiritual crisis” like kids in costumes asking for sweets. One can’t help but admire his commitment to preserving traditional values, like, say, avoiding fun entirely. Perhaps next he’ll take on the insidious menace of fancy dress parties—heaven forbid we let joy sneak into the sacred calendar!

Ah, Patriarch Kirill’s Halloween critique—because nothing screams “spiritual authority” quite like a man in a robe telling us not to dress like ghouls for one night a year. Perhaps he’s just jealous he can’t pull off a ghost costume as well as the rest of us! Cheers to another holiday that might just be too “trick or treat” for his taste—who knew the afterlife had such strict dress codes?

Canaan (Hebrew: כְּנַעַן Kəna‘an – “submissive, subject”) was the son of Ham and grandson of Noah (Gen. 9:18). YHWH

Yahweh is the personal name of God in the Old Testament, reflecting the biblical pronunciation of the Hebrew name יהוה – YHWH, known as the Tetragrammaton, comprising four consonants: yod, he, vav, he.
In the biblical text, this name is notably linked to God’s revelation to Moses at the burning bush. When Moses inquires about God’s name, God responds: “I am who I am” or “I am who I am” (Ex. 3:14)
