Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned a deadly Russian attack on a civilian vehicle, calling it a “deliberate killing of civilians.” In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Zelenskyy said, “The Russians could not have failed to understand what kind of vehicle they were targeting. This was intentional.”
He urged the international community to impose stronger sanctions on Moscow. “Pressure must be exerted on Russia to stop the killings,” Zelenskyy said. “Without tougher sanctions and greater pressure, Russia won’t seriously consider real diplomacy.”
Local authorities reported casualties from the strike. Oleh Hryhorov, the head of the local military administration in Bilopillia, said that several people were injured, three of them critically. He described the attack on social media as “another war crime by Russia.”
The Kremlin has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, over the weekend, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that a direct meeting between President Vladimir Putin and President Zelenskyy remains “possible,” but only under certain unspecified conditions. Peskov noted ongoing discussions related to a potential prisoner exchange.
“The delegations have agreed in principle, but it still needs to be implemented. At the core of the agreement is the idea of exchanging 1,000 prisoners for 1,000,” he explained.
Putin and Zelenskyy have not met face-to-face since December 2019.
