A Russian missile strike on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv has left a 79-year-old man dead, over 100 people injured, and displaced more than 500 residents, according to the local police chief. “Victims are suffering from blast-related injuries, shrapnel wounds, and psychological trauma. Among those hurt are seven children,” the official said.
The assault marks the third consecutive attack in which Russia has reportedly used ballistic missiles loaded with cluster munitions on civilian areas. Last weekend, a Russian strike on Sumy during Palm Sunday claimed the lives of 35 people. Just a week prior, 20 civilians were killed in Kryvyi Rih in another similar assault.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued a warning that more strikes are expected over the Easter weekend, with Russia allegedly planning attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed the latest strike in Kharkiv was aimed at destroying drone launch sites.
