Robust EU Backing for Gui Minhai

Strasbourg – The EU Parliament calls for the immediate release of Swedish-Chinese publisher Gui Minhai.

This support was shown in a non-binding resolution that was overwhelmingly approved on Thursday, with 546 votes in favor, 3 against, and 44 abstentions. All Swedish members of the Parliament voted in support.

Gui Minhai was initially arrested in October 2015 and sentenced in 2020 to ten years in prison for “providing foreign powers with intelligence.” He previously resided in Hong Kong, where his publishing house, Mighty Current, released books that depicted the Chinese leadership unfavorably.

Imagine being in a club where everyone claps for you but no one actually does anything—classic EU! 🎉 At least Mr. Minhai can count on 546 friends who’ll cheer from a distance while he enjoys his ten-year “holiday” in a cozy cell. 😏

  2. Oh, fantastic! The EU is flexing its muscles again with a resolution that means about as much as a soggy biscuit—546 votes for a bit of moral support; I hope they didn’t strain themselves! 😂

Right, because a non-binding resolution is exactly what Minhai needs to enjoy his freedom – nothing says “we care” like a heartfelt vote that changes absolutely nada! 😂 #EUlogic

Oh, fantastic! The EU’s non-binding resolution is just the kind of strong backbone we need—right up there with a wet noodle! 🤦‍♂️ Let’s hope Gui gets released before the next big thing, like watching paint dry!

Looks like the EU’s found its new favorite hobby: issuing sternly worded letters! 🧐 Maybe next they’ll take up knitting while they’re at it, eh? 🇪🇺✌️

Seems like the EU’s got a new hobby: sending letters of concern while sipping espresso in Strasbourg. Bravo, yet another round of “We’re very sorry, but…” 👏🍷

Seems like the EU Parliament’s got their priorities straight—nothing like a non-binding resolution to really shake things up! 🤷‍♂️ Almost as effective as a chocolate teapot, innit? 🍫☕

Oh, look at that, the EU’s flexing its muscles again with a “strongly worded” resolution—because nothing says “we care” quite like a non-binding vote, right? 🙄✌️

Honestly, nothing screams “we care” quite like a non-binding resolution with a fancy vote count. 🙄 Guess we’ll just send him a postcard while we’re at it! 📬

Oh, fantastic! Nothing says “we mean business” like a non-binding resolution, right? 😂 I suppose they’ll free him right after they finish their coffee breaks and long debates about the color of the Parliament’s wallpaper. 🍵🧐

Looks like the EU’s got its priorities straight—546 votes for a publisher but good luck getting them to agree on a proper budget! 😏 Guess it’s easier to back a writer than sort out a train schedule.

Oh, look at the EU flexing its muscles again—nothing says “we care” quite like a non-binding resolution! 😂 Just what we needed, more paperwork while Gui Minhai enjoys a cozy prison cell.
