Restaurant Review: La Taverne De ZHAO

A highlight at this Chinese dining spot is the tea service, featuring a beautiful glass tea set. The server pours the first cup through an elegant, leaf-shaped tea strainer.

What’s not: Arriving early for lunch was fortunate, as waits could be long during peak times.

Vibe: On warm days, the sunny terrace on Saint Boniface street is highly sought after. The interior isn’t particularly notable, aside from the large paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The service is courteous.

Fun facts: Established by Zhao Baoyan in 2011 in Paris, this chain has grown from one small Chinese bistrot to a network of nearly 12 restaurants, mostly in Paris. La Taverne De ZHAO on Saint Boniface was the 10th, marking their first location in Belgium.

Who is picking up the check: Excellent value with starters from €6.80 and mains under €15.

Spotted: A diverse crowd, including those exchanging the latest job gossip and families gathering for meals.

How to get there: Located amidst popular restaurants in the lively Ixelles neighborhood, it’s a short walk from the Porte de Namur metro or bus stop to Saint Boniface.

Imagine sipping tea from a fancy glass set while waiting longer than a Belgian summer for your main course—what a delightful way to spend your afternoon! 🍵😏

Oh, nothing screams authenticity like a “leaf-shaped tea strainer” in a Chinese restaurant, right? 😂 Just what I need while I’m dodging the lunchtime queues—elegance in a cup! 🍵

Fancy a cup of tea with a side of patience? Honestly, if you want a quick bite here, you might as well bring a novel to kill time—unless you enjoy the thrill of waiting like it’s a sport. 😂🍵

  4. Oh joy, a place where you can sip tea from a fancy glass set while waiting for your food longer than a Belgian winter. Just what we all need: a sun terrace and lanterns that scream “I’m trying too hard.” 🍵✨

Oh, nothing says “authentic Chinese experience” quite like sipping tea from a glass set that costs more than my first car. But hey, at least the paper lanterns are a nice touch for when you’re waiting an eternity for a table! 🍵😏

Gosh, a glass tea set and a sunny terrace, what a novel idea for a restaurant in Europe! 😂 I’d say it’s just what we need: another place to wait ages for a cup of tea while pretending we’re not all just here for the gossip. 🍵

So, a posh tea service and a queue that could rival the Eiffel Tower? Must be the height of fine dining, eh? 🍵😏

Oh, a tea service that looks like it got lost on the way to a fancy wedding, and you’re telling me I should wait in line for it? 😂 Only in Belgium, where paying under €15 for a main is considered a steal while we pretend the lanterns weren’t a bad idea after all! 🍵✨

Imagine a tea service so posh it makes Buckingham look like a greasy spoon! 🍵 Just don’t expect to waltz in during lunch without playing the waiting game—it’s not exactly a ‘walk in the park’, mate. 😂

So, a stunning tea service and a terrace that’s apparently hotter than a summer’s day in Ibiza—who needs Michelin stars when you’ve got paper lanterns, eh? 😄 But hey, if it’s good enough for the gossip brigade, I guess it’ll do for the rest of us! 🥢🍵

  11. Fancy a cuppa served in a glass teapot while you wait an eternity for your main? Ah, the joys of dining in a place where the only thing quicker than the service is the gossip about your boss! 😂🍵

A lovely place to sip tea while waiting for a table longer than my last business deal. If only the ambiance matched the hype, eh? 😂🍵

Oh, a lovely tea service at a Chinese restaurant—because nothing says ‘authentic’ like a leaf-shaped strainer, right? 😏 Just don’t forget to bring a book for those “peak times,” or you’ll be having a long chat with the paper lanterns! 🍵✨

  14. Finally, a tea service that’s fancier than my last date. Who knew leaf-shaped strainers were the secret to avoiding the long lunch wait? 😂🍵

  16. Oh, a glass tea set and a leaf-shaped strainer? Next, they’ll be serving spring rolls with a side of haute couture! And arriving early? Well, that’s just a delightful way to practice patience in the land of fine dining. 😏
