Beringen (Eurotoday) – The historic Casino in Beringen is set to begin renovation work on its entrance hall next week, spearheaded by Culture head Esmeralda Meynen and Heritage lead Patrick Witters. The project aims to improve accessibility, restore the building’s classic look, and is expected to be completed by October 2025.
According to VRT News, this marks the second major renovation phase at the landmark site in Beringen, a municipality in Belgium’s Limburg province. Earlier this year, work was carried out to restore the roof—a vital step to safeguard the building’s future.
The upcoming phase will concentrate on the entrance hall. As the Casino nears its 75th anniversary in 2025, officials believe it’s time for a modern update that respects its legacy. A key priority is enhancing accessibility, as the current design includes many stairs that present problems for those with physical disabilities. The updated entrance will be more inclusive, ensuring that everyone can comfortably use the Casino’s facilities.
How will Meynen and Witters preserve history and improve accessibility at the Casino?
The redesign will also bring back elements of the Casino’s original aesthetic that have been altered over the years. A new visitor information counter will be installed in the entrance hall, and energy-efficient lighting will replace the current fixtures.
Esmeralda Meynen, responsible for cultural programming, emphasized the importance and timeliness of these updates. She noted that the Casino needs to remain a vibrant cultural space accessible to all for years to come.
Despite the construction, the Casino and its Cultural Centre will remain open. Visitors will use an alternate entrance during the renovation to ensure that scheduled cultural events and community activities continue without interruption.
Patrick Witters, who oversees heritage projects, stressed the importance of handling the renovation with care, given the Casino’s historical significance. Skilled craftsmen and restoration specialists will be involved to ensure the work respects the building’s heritage.
Witters explained that the ultimate goal is to enhance the entrance area while maintaining the Casino’s role as a cultural beacon. Once the entrance hall renovation is completed, further improvements are planned for the facade and meeting rooms.

Well, look who’s finally giving the old Beringen Casino a facelift—only took them 75 years! 🕰️ Guess they realized that accessibility is a bit more important than just making the entrance look like a posh nightclub from the ’80s. Cheers to keeping up with the times! 🍻

Just what we needed—a 75-year-old casino getting a facelift to ensure its *timeless charm* can finally welcome the locals without making them scale a mountain of stairs. Can’t wait to see how they blend “modern” with “historical”—like serving a craft beer in a medieval goblet. 🍻🏰

Oh joy, another renovation project in Beringen – because nothing says “vibrant cultural space” like a shiny new entrance hall. Just what we needed, a grand entrance to help us forget about all the stairs! 😏💼

Renovating the entrance of Beringen Casino, eh? Just what we need—more stairs for the elderly and a fancy new counter for the tourists to ask where the loo is. At this rate, we might actually make it to the 75th anniversary without losing half of our patrons in those pesky staircases! 😂🏗️

Renovating the Beringen Casino, are we? Can’t wait to see how they manage to make it more accessible for everyone—because clearly, the current design was meant for acrobats only. 🥴 Hope they remember to leave some of that ‘historic charm’ intact while they’re at it!
