Devices Confiscated
In November 2021, an individual identified as H6 was intercepted at a British port and compelled to surrender his digital devices, including his mobile phone. Later, in 2023, he was removed from a flight traveling from Beijing to London and informed that he would no longer be permitted to enter the U.K.
According to official documents, his confiscated device contained direct communications with the United Front Work Department (UFWD), an entity linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). It also held a document containing “questions posed by the Chinese Embassy regarding strategy.”
A formal letter from the British government stated, “We have reason to believe you are engaging, or have previously engaged, in covert and deceptive activity on behalf of the United Front Work Department (UFWD), which is an arm of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) state apparatus.” The letter highlighted that the UFWD is known for its involvement in political interference, including efforts to influence the U.K.’s democratic systems. Consequently, British authorities assessed that H6 posed a potential national security threat.
During an interview over his exclusion from the U.K., H6 asserted that he had no political connections in China. He defended his business endeavors in the U.K., arguing they contributed economic benefits to the country.
However, British officials challenged his claims, concluding that H6 “was frequently connected to officials associated with the Chinese State.”
The case also adds a fresh layer of scrutiny to Prince Andrew. The Duke of York, who had been stripped of his military titles and royal patronages by the late Queen Elizabeth II, has faced persistent criticism over his associations with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. This new development raises further questions about Prince Andrew’s judgment in his affiliations.
