Bratislava – President Peter Pellegrini of Slovakia emphasized the critical issue of the European Union’s (EU) potential role in the peace process for Ukraine as he prepared to depart for the 61st Munich Security Conference on Friday. This information was confirmed by the presidential office to TASR.
The conference will focus on global security challenges, transforming Munich into a hub for diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing urgent international security issues, particularly in light of the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
As reported by the presidential office, discussions among world leaders will center on transatlantic relations, the state of the international order, and regional conflicts.
“Multilateral politics has shifted towards the assertion of the hard national interests of major powers, adopting a take-it-or-leave-it stance. The EU is confronted with a pressing dilemma regarding its approach to Ukraine, the conditions for peace, and I am particularly interested in understanding the American perspective on Europe’s security and economic cooperation,” President Pellegrini stated.
He also mentioned that the conference is expected to include representatives from the US, including Vice President J. D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, from whom he hopes to gain insights on strategies for resolving the war in Ukraine.
The presidential office noted that President Pellegrini’s agenda in Munich will feature several bilateral meetings with leaders, including European Council President António Costa, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset. Additionally, the conference will create opportunities for engagement with various private sector stakeholders, including notable companies such as Google, Meta, Airbus, and Boston Consulting Group.
