Portugal Weighs Options for Fighter Jets Amid Concerns Over Restrictions

Portuguese Defense Minister Melo has expressed concerns about potential limitations imposed by an ally on the use, maintenance, and operational capabilities of military aircraft.

“The world has changed … and this ally of ours … could bring restrictions on use, maintenance, components, and everything related to ensuring that these aircraft remain operational in all types of scenarios,” Melo stated.

He emphasized the need to explore multiple alternatives, particularly focusing on European-made aircraft.

Meanwhile, Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans confirmed earlier this week that the Netherlands would proceed with its contract for the jets. However, Portugal has yet to finalize any agreement.

The discussion comes as Portugal prepares for a snap election following the recent collapse of its center-right government.

Oh, brilliant idea, let’s just wave goodbye to the F-35 and explore “European alternatives”—because who needs cutting-edge tech when you can have a vintage fighter jet from the 80s? 😂✈️ Good luck, Minister Melo!
