
Brussels – Ursula von der Leyen took to X to share that Pope Francis has “inspired millions around the world, transcending the Catholic Church, through his humility and genuine love for the underprivileged.”
In a similar vein, European Council President Antonio Costa shared his aspirations on social media, expressing his hope that the teachings of Pope Francis will “lead us towards a hopeful future,” particularly amid a challenging global landscape filled with conflicts.
“His profound compassion was evident. He addressed the major global issues of our era—migration, climate change, inequality, and peace—while also acknowledging the daily struggles of individuals,” the former Portuguese Prime Minister noted.
Echoing sentiments from leaders worldwide, the head of European diplomacy conveyed her sorrow at the passing of the Argentine Jesuit. “During our recent meeting in Rome, I expressed my gratitude to Pope Francis for his steadfast leadership in safeguarding the vulnerable and upholding human dignity,” Kaja Kallas remarked on X.
