Pope Leo criticizes Europe for viewing migrants as ‘numbers or files’

The pope criticized Europe for professing to defend human dignity while allowing the Mediterranean and the Atlantic to become graveyards without tombstones.

“Human dignity has no passport and does not lose value when crossing a border,” he stated.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez joined Leo on his visit to the Canary Islands, highlighting their shared support for pro-migrant policies.

In April, Spain’s center-left government announced plans to grant legal status to 500,000 unauthorized migrants, a move opposed by the center-right People’s Party and the far-right Vox group, both of which support the ‘national priority’ policy to favor Spanish citizens for state benefits and services.

Leo’s comments came a day before the EU’s new Migration and Asylum Pact was set to take effect, aimed at strengthening the bloc’s external borders and enabling the deportation of failed asylum seekers to hubs outside the EU.

Just what we needed, more high-level chats while the Med turns into a watery graveyard. 🤦‍♂️ Who knew compassion was so difficult to pack with the rest of the EU’s ‘priorities’?

Oh, splendid! Just what we needed—another high-profile lecture on compassion from the Vatican while Europe’s drowning in red tape and graveyard policies. Who knew human dignity was such a difficult concept to grasp in a sea of bureaucratic paperwork? 😏✈️

Oh great, nothing like a good ol’ slap on the wrist from the Pope while Euro leaders play musical chairs with human lives. I suppose it’s easier to count bodies than to show compassion, innit? 🙄✈️

  4. Isn’t it lovely how we can throw around phrases like “human dignity” while treating people like luggage at the airport? Bravo, Europe, keep that moral high ground nice and polished! 🙄✈️

Funny how Europe’s idea of “human dignity” seems to drown faster than a lead balloon in the Mediterranean, eh? 😂 Maybe we should add “graveyard keeper” to the EU’s extensive job descriptions.

  6. Seems like the Pope just dropped a truth bomb on Europe’s ‘humanitarian’ efforts—who knew graveyards were the new border control? 😂 Must be nice to play chess with lives while sipping espresso in a cozy café! ☕️

Looks like the Pope’s got a real knack for stating the obvious—who knew treating people like, you know, actual humans wasn’t just a nice-to-have? 🤷‍♂️ Meanwhile, Europe’s busy perfecting the art of “compassionate” border control. Classic!

Oh, how original! Nothing says “we care” like a new pact that turns the Mediterranean into a giant waiting room for deportations. Bravo, Europe! 👏🏽

Just what we needed, a pope and a prime minister playing tag-team on human dignity while Europe’s border policies could use a bit more than just a pat on the back. 🧐 Guess it’s easier to count numbers than to actually see the human behind them, innit?

Oh sure, let’s just keep patting ourselves on the back for our “human dignity” while turning the Mediterranean into the latest tourist attraction—graveyards are all the rage, right? 😏 Bravo, Europe!

Oh, splendid, just what we needed—another lecture from the Vatican while Europe turns a blind eye! Guess those numbers and files don’t have a seat at the table, eh? 😂📄
