Podemos and Other Left-Wing Parties Gather Signatures for EU to Sever Ties with Israel

Madrid – Together with other European leftist groups, Podemos, La Francia Insumisa, and the Portuguese Bloco have initiated a continent-wide petition urging the European Union (EU) to terminate its association agreement with Israel.

This initiative is spearheaded by the European Left Alliance (ELA), a newly formed coalition that includes several alternative left-wing parties, such as Podemos along with its French and Portuguese counterparts.

They are advocating for a European Citizens’ Initiative, akin to Spain’s Popular Legislative Initiative, which necessitates gathering at least one million signatures from EU citizens to formally request a legislative proposal from the European Commission, which must then respond with either acceptance or rejection.

The signature collection effort aims to encompass eight European nations: Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Denmark, and Finland.

In Spain, 43,290 signatures are needed, which will be gathered both physically and online over a twelve-month period.

The groups introduced this Citizens’ Initiative at an event attended by Podemos Member of the European Parliament and former Minister of Equality Irene Montero.

“We are launching this European Citizens’ Initiative to demand that Europe cease trade with genocidal regimes by ending the trade agreement with Israel, calling for the complete severance of relations — including military and diplomatic ties — along with a total arms embargo,” she stated.

Additionally, she emphasized that no representative of Israel should be present on European soil and that the “illegal occupation of Palestine” must also come to an end.

“We will make it clear that (the genocide) was not executed in our name or with our silence. We urge the peoples of Europe to take action against genocide by signing this initiative,” concluded Montero. (January 13)

Looks like Podemos is really trying to break the record for the world’s longest petition—hope they’ve got enough ink! 🖊️ Good luck getting a million signatures; maybe they should just set up a booth at the nearest tapas bar! 🍷✌️

Looks like Podemos and friends have decided to play the EU’s version of ‘musical chairs’ — only instead of chairs, they’re trying to yank trade deals. Someone should remind them that a million signatures won’t change the game when the rest of us are just trying to get through our morning coffee ☕️.

A brilliant strategy, really—who needs a functioning economy when you can just gather signatures and hope for the best? 🤷‍♂️ Must be nice to live in a fantasy where petitions solve everything!

Looks like Podemos has found a new pastime – collecting signatures like they’re collecting stamps from European countries. Good luck with that, hope they have plenty of ink and a long enough pen! 😂✍️

Oh, splendid idea! Because nothing says “effective diplomacy” quite like a petition with a million signatures from people who probably can’t find their own socks. 😂✌️

  7. So, we’re just going to collect a million signatures, are we? I hear the EU runs on bureaucracy, not dreams! 😂✍️

Looks like Podemos and their mates have decided that collecting signatures is the new Olympic sport in Europe—who knew political activism could be so competitive? 🤷‍♂️ Hope they’re ready for the same enthusiasm they get when asking for directions in a taxi! 🥴

Oh, brilliant idea—nothing screams “we care” quite like a petition to cut off trade with a country while sipping espresso in a cozy café! 🍵✌️ Just what Europe needs, more paperwork and signature collecting instead of actual solutions.

Looks like Podemos and their pals have found a new hobby—collecting signatures instead of real solutions. Who knew political activism could double as a European game of “Let’s See How Many People We Can Annoy”? 😂

  14. So, a million signatures to end trade with Israel? Sounds like a real “how to win friends and influence people” strategy—because nothing says diplomacy like a petition, right? 😂✌️

Seems like Podemos and their pals have found a new hobby—gathering signatures instead of solving real problems. Who needs a stable economy when you can play diplomat from a comfy chair? 😂✌️

  16. Looks like Podemos and their pals are off on another jaunt to save the world, one signature at a time. Who knew collecting a million names could be the new pastime? 😂✍️
