Anne Hidalgo Announces She Will Not Seek a Third Term as Paris Mayor
PARIS — Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has announced she will not pursue a third term in office. The former Socialist presidential candidate revealed her decision in an interview published Tuesday in Le Monde.
Hidalgo, who first took office in 2014, has been a prominent and polarizing figure in French politics. She spearheaded ambitious initiatives to make Paris greener, implementing bold and transformative policies that significantly reshaped the city. While praised by environmentalists for her vision, her approach also drew sharp criticism from opponents.
In stepping away from another mayoral bid, Hidalgo has expressed her support for Senator Rémi Féraud as her potential successor. Féraud, a relatively lesser-known political figure, appears set to inherit her political legacy in the French capital.
Despite not seeking re-election, Hidalgo confirmed that she plans to remain active in politics.
