The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has added 12 new songs to its “Hymns for Home and Church” collection, now available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French online and on the Gospel Library app. This brings the total number of hymns in these languages to 72, with 11 hymns now available in German, Korean, and Tagalog, and 13 new hymns released in Cebuano, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Samoan, Tongan, and Vietnamese.
Sunday School General President Paul V. Johnson expressed excitement about the hymns, many of which relate to the Old Testament, coinciding with the Church’s 2026 study focus. Johnson noted these hymns enhance home and church learning by teaching doctrine and gospel principles effectively. Hymns like “Elijah and the Still, Small Voice” and “Long Ago, Within a Garden” draw inspiration from biblical narratives and teachings. “Jesus Is My Shepherd” echoes the sentiment of the 23rd Psalm, emphasizing Jesus’ love.
President Johnson encourages memorization, listening, family teaching, singing, and incorporating music into church lessons. Updates to existing hymns include changes for doctrinal clarity and cultural relevance. The song “When I Am Baptized” is featured with updated lyrics to better convey gospel truths, as highlighted by Primary General President Susan H. Porter, emphasizing the continuous opportunity for repentance through Christ’s atonement.
