Nine EU Countries Urge European Court to Relax Rules on Expelling Foreign Criminals

Nine European Leaders Seek to Loosen Rules on Expelling Criminal Migrants

Nine European heads of government are calling for a revision in the interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights to make it easier to deport migrants who have committed crimes.

In a joint statement led by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, the leaders argue that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has broadened the Convention’s scope excessively. The full letter can be read here.

Meloni emphasized the need to rethink decades-old international agreements in light of modern challenges. “Italy and Denmark want to initiate a political discussion about certain European conventions that we are committed to—and whether, decades after they were written, those conventions are equipped to deal with critical issues of our time, especially the migration issue,” she said Thursday evening.

Oh brilliant, just what we need—more legal gymnastics to kick out the ‘undesirable’ guests. Maybe next we can create a reality show: “Who Gets Deported?”—the ratings would be through the roof! 😏✈️

Looks like the EU is finally getting the memo – who knew decades-old agreements could be a bit out of touch, eh? 🤷‍♂️ Next thing you know, they’ll be asking for a wifi upgrade for all those old treaties! 😂💼

Seems like some EU leaders have finally discovered that old treaties might not quite fit the modern world—who would’ve thought? 🤔 Next, they’ll be suggesting we check the weather forecast for centuries-old fishing rights! 🌧️🌊

Seems like a real brainwave, doesn’t it? Let’s just rewrite the rules whenever they don’t suit us—next thing you know, we might be deporting anyone who can’t parallel park! 🚖🙄

Looks like a group of leaders have finally found their spine – after all these years of tiptoeing around human rights, it’s about time we kicked a few out to the curb, eh? 🤷‍♂️ What’s next, a seminar on how to read the fine print without a magnifying glass? 🤔

Looks like some leaders have finally decided that decades-old agreements aren’t quite the same as yesterday’s leftovers! 🥳 Who knew human rights could be so flexible—next, they’ll be suggesting we just pack ‘em off with a one-way ticket to Anywhere But Here! 🎟️✈️
