
Sarajevo, (Fena) – Major General Maurizio Fronda has assumed the role of EUFOR commander in BiH, affirming that the mission will continue to serve as a reliable source of stability and deterrence. The handover ceremony took place at Butmir base, attended by EUFOR personnel and, notably for the first time, a platoon from the Armed Forces of BiH.
The new commander expressed deep respect for BiH, committing to a transparent and impartial approach in collaboration with local institutions. The outgoing commander, Major General Florin-Marian Barbu, highlighted that during his tenure, EUFOR provided a visible and calming presence amid the country’s political challenges and thanked partners for their support.
European military and diplomatic leaders commended Barbu for enhancing cooperation with the Armed Forces of BiH and sustaining stability, expressing confidence that Fronda will carry on this important mission. The ceremony marked the symbolic transfer of command from Romania to Italy.
Luigi Soreca, Head of the EU Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, remarked that EUFOR has maintained a balanced approach despite political pressures, affirming its pivotal role as a stabilizing force in BiH following the extension of its mandate. (22.01.)
