Nearly 50% of Romanian MEPs Supported Referencing the CJEU Regarding the Mercosur Agreement

Strasbourg – Out of 33 Romanian MEPs, 16 supported the decision to refer the Mercosur agreement to the Court of Justice of the EU. Meanwhile, 12 Romanian MEPs voted against it. Additionally, nine MEPs backed a resolution from the Patriots for Europe group to send the agreement to the CJEU, while 13 opposed it.

On Wednesday, the European Parliament passed a proposal to refer the Mercosur agreement to the Court for evaluation against EU treaties, achieving a simple majority. A total of 334 MEPs voted in favor, 324 against, and 11 abstained, resulting in 669 total votes.

A separate resolution seeking the same request was not approved, receiving 225 votes in favor, 402 against, and 13 abstentions. (21.1.2026)
