Bratislava – This year, the National Motorway Company (NDS) secured over 150 million euros in EU funding aimed at enhancing road infrastructure, marking a seven percent increase in the utilization of European resources compared to the previous year. The primary focus of this funding was the construction of the D1 Hubová – Ivachnová corridor, as reported by NDS on Monday.
“The year 2024 has been a pivotal one for the National Motorway Company,” officials stated. “We successfully leveraged resources from both the outgoing program period and the newly available EU funds, acquiring a total of 150.2 million euros to improve our motorway network.”
NDS highlighted that nearly two-thirds of the total European funds pertain to the original program period. Specifically, the motorway company received 95.7 million euros from the older EU funds, primarily allocated for the D1 Hubová – Ivachnová construction. Additionally, funding was directed towards the D1 Lietavská Lúčka – Dubná Skala segment and project documentation for the D1 Turany – Hubová stretch.
Moreover, NDS has begun to tap into the new EU funding opportunities. From the Operational Program Slovakia, it received 30 million euros earmarked for the Košice bypass. Additionally, nearly 24 million euros were allocated for the second section of the R2 Košice, Šaca – Košické Oľšany, with 6.6 million euros dedicated to the R3 Tvrdošín – Nižná section this year.
A notable achievement for the National Motorway Company in leveraging European resources was its participation in the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), from which it secured almost 25 million euros this year for the second stage of the R4 Prešov – northern bypass. Looking ahead, NDS aims to progressively enhance its use of EU funds in the coming years. (December 23)
