Ljubljana – On Friday, the National Assembly passed a declaration outlining Slovenia’s strategic direction within the EU for the period from January 2025 to June 2026. During the declaration’s presentation on Tuesday, Prime Minister Robert Golob stressed the importance of the European Union becoming self-reliant, noting that the era of relying on global allies and partners for security and economic matters has come to an end.
Golob subtly criticized the United States, referencing its clear message that Europe must learn to stand on its own.
The Prime Minister identified key priorities for Slovenia in the EU, including boosting the European economy’s competitiveness, reinforcing the capital union, investing in knowledge, and enhancing security and resilience.
While the parliamentary groups largely supported the declaration during its presentation, they expressed some concerns. Critics argued that the document was overly broad and did not adequately reflect the evolving geopolitical landscape, suggesting that the world is progressing at a faster pace than the EU on various fronts.
This declaration is a strategic framework that had previously received approval from the National Assembly’s committees on foreign and EU affairs in February. (April 25)
