Following the College of Commissioners’ decision on the new EU budget for 2028 – 2034, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, issued a statement:
“The European Commission’s proposal to increase the budget for infrastructure and transport from €25.6 billion to €51.7 billion, alongside a tenfold increase in the military mobility budget from €1.7 billion to €17 billion, reflects a significant political choice. This move shows that the European Union prioritizes investments that truly impact citizens’ daily lives, promoting cohesion, competitiveness, and security. Modern infrastructure, smart transport systems, agile military logistics, vibrant tourism, and competitive shipping are essential for a robust single market, effective defense, and thriving entrepreneurship. The new budget for infrastructure and transport is thus a considerable achievement for Europe, the result of our diligent efforts. Most importantly, it represents a victory for all European citizens and businesses. This funding translates into improved infrastructure and transport networks, safer and quicker mobility, a strengthened economy, more job and development opportunities, reduced costs, and stable investments.
Notably, this budget marks the first explicit emphasis on tourism as a key EU priority. It also ensures that our country receives a larger share of the new European Budget, leading to increased investments, more projects, and broader opportunities for all across our nation. This underscores Greece’s developmental potential and enhanced role within the EU. Europe is evolving with a more strategic approach, a flexible budget, streamlined processes, and greater efficiency. Our aim is to enhance the quality of life for all citizens. This is the objective we pursue through our daily efforts, and this budget serves as a crucial tool for achieving it.” (16/7/25)
