Mandatory rent payment by bank transfer in Greece postponed to October 2026

The Greek Ministry of Economy and Finance has officially postponed the implementation of mandatory rent payments exclusively through bank transactions. Originally scheduled for early April 2026, the new start date is October 1, 2026.

This decision, announced on March 30, is intended to provide property owners and tenants more time for technical readiness and registration of bank accounts (IBAN) with the revenue agency (AADE) system. From October 2026, payments made “in hand” will be deemed invalid by tax authorities. Landlords who continue to accept cash will forfeit the automatic 5% deduction from their taxable income (allocated for property maintenance). Tenants who fail to pay rent via bank transactions will lose eligibility for housing subsidies and tax credits, which can amount to 800 euros per year. Owners must register a personal IBAN on the AADE platform, ensuring the account matches the name on the rental agreement. This measure is part of a larger initiative by the government to tackle tax evasion and the “grey” economy in Greece’s real estate market.

Looks like the Greek government is giving us all a lovely three-year holiday from reality—who needs to pay rent on time anyway? 😂 Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more complicated, they throw in a IBAN puzzle!

  2. Looks like the Greek government has decided we need a little more time to figure out how to pay our rent properly—because who doesn’t love a good financial puzzle? 🤔 Just another day of keeping the cash flowing under the table, eh? 💸

So, they’ve given us a solid three and a half years to figure out how to use a bank transfer—what a generous *ofer*! Who needs cash anyway when you can enjoy the thrill of a bureaucratic rollercoaster? 😏💸

  4. Looks like the Greek government has decided we all need a bit more time to get our ducks in a row before they force us to pay rent like it’s 2026 or something. Can’t wait to see how many of us will be “forgetting” those bank transfers! 😂💸

  5. What a relief! Who wouldn’t want to wait two extra years to make their rent payments more complicated than a Greek tragedy? 😂💸

Mandating rent payments by bank transfer in Greece postponed? Brilliant! Just what we need—more time for landlords to practice their “cash is king” dance before the taxman waltzes in. 💶💃 #ProgressAtItsFinest

Clever move, really—nothing says “let’s modernize” quite like giving everyone an extra six months to sort their bank accounts while we all continue to pass around cash like it’s a hot potato. 😂 At this rate, we might as well wait for the next Olympics to sort out our finances!

Of course, nothing says “we’re here to help” like giving everyone an extra two years to figure out how to not pay in cash. 😂 Who needs a smooth transition when you can have a bureaucratic circus instead?

So, a little more time for landlords and tenants to prep their IBANs, eh? Because who doesn’t love a good game of financial hopscotch before October 2026? 😂💸

Another brilliant move from the Ministry—who knew we needed a whole extra six months to figure out how to send money electronically? 😅 Hope they don’t expect us to take this “banking revolution” too seriously! 💸

Looks like our landlords have been given a lovely extension to brush up on their online banking skills—because who doesn’t love a good game of ‘find the IBAN’? 🤷‍♂️ Better grab the popcorn for the October 2026 debut! 🍿

Guess Greece just decided to give everyone a little extra time to figure out how to use a bank—what a kindness! 😂 In the meantime, I suppose cash under the table is just a quaint little tradition, right? 💸

Oh, fab news, more time to figure out how to pay rent without using good ol’ cash! Just what we needed, a lovely two-year break for everyone to embrace the joys of bureaucracy. 🥳💸
