Oudenaarde (Eurotoday) – On February 14, 2025, police in Kruisem arrested two French suspects linked to a break-in attempt. Officers found burglary tools and mobile phones in their vehicle, which had French license plates. Investigations are ongoing to determine their possible connections to other crimes.
On Tuesday, February 12, 2025, the emergency center 101 received a call regarding an attempted break-in in Kruisem. The victim provided key details about the suspects, describing them as a man and a woman who were in a car with French license plates.
The Flemish Ardennes police acted quickly. They alerted the Kruisem BIN, a neighborhood network that assists law enforcement in tracking suspicious activity. This cooperation enabled officers to gather information efficiently and intensify the search for the suspects’ vehicle.
How did Kruisem police collaborate to arrest the burglary suspects?
Following a thorough investigation, the police located the vehicle. An intervention team was dispatched, and they intercepted the suspects on the N60 road. Authorities are now examining further details related to the attempted break-in and investigating whether the pair is connected to other criminal activities.
“After an intensive investigation by our teams, the suspects were arrested by an intervention team on the N60 regional road,”
stated the Flemish Ardennes police zone.
During the arrest, authorities discovered burglary tools and multiple mobile phones in the suspects’ possession. Further checks confirmed that both individuals are from France and do not have a fixed address.
Officials believe this raises concerns that they may be part of a larger organized crime network involved in burglaries. Their lack of a permanent residence and the tools in their possession suggest they may have been operating in various regions without a fixed base.
Following their arrest, the case was presented to a judge in Oudenaarde, who ruled that both suspects should remain in custody. Investigators are working to determine their involvement in various burglaries. Strong suspicions link them to multiple home break-ins across East Flanders, West Flanders, and Wallonia.
Police are examining potential connections between the suspects and past burglaries by reviewing evidence, security footage, and phone records. The investigation aims to uncover the extent of their criminal activities and whether they acted alone or were part of a larger network.
