Bucharest – On Tuesday, the Council of the European Union announced the appointment of Lucian Romaşcanu as Romania’s representative on the European Court of Auditors.
Mr. Romaşcanu will serve a term from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2031, succeeding Mr. Viorel Ştefan. These appointments are made by the Council based on recommendations from member states and following consultations with the European Parliament, as stated in a press release from the Council.
The European Parliament approved Lucian Romaşcanu’s nomination by the Romanian government on April 1.
According to the EU Treaty, members of the Court of Auditors are required to perform their functions with complete independence and with the best interests of the European Union in mind.
The European Court of Auditors serves as the EU’s independent audit body. Its audit reports and opinions are crucial elements in the accountability framework of the EU, ensuring that individuals in charge of budget management and the execution of EU policies are held responsible for their actions.
