Lanaken (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Lanaken is mapping its traffic signs after summer, starting with busy spots like Molenweideplein. Mobility alderman Jolein Martens leads the project to improve safety and clarity for all road users.
As VRT News reported, Lanaken‘s, a municipality in the province of Limburg, Belgium, local government is working on a project to map all the traffic signs in the area. They mentioned that the goal is to deal with the problem of too many signs and visual clutter. Over the years, many new signs have been added because of construction and changing rules.
According to officials, old signs haven’t always been removed. This has led to a lot of signs in some places, which makes it hard for people to understand the rules. The Molenweideplein is a very busy spot with too many signs.
They stated this can be confusing for drivers and pedestrians and possibly dangerous. Jolein Martens, who oversees traffic, believes the square is a “jungle” of signs, which contributes to people not knowing what to do or even where to look.
What is Lanaken doing to improve traffic sign clarity?
The local government in Lanaken is working on a project to fix the confusing traffic signs. They’re going to map every sign in the area to see what’s there. The plan is to figure out which signs are still needed, which are old, and which can be taken down or combined.
They’ll blank”>start with busy spots like Molenweideplein. By eliminating unnecessary notifications, Lanaken intends to simplify traffic regulations. These changes are a part of a larger initiative to improve the town for all residents. Reducing excess signage is intended to increase accessibility and improve the visual landscape of the town.
After the summer, Lanaken will start making changes to its traffic signs based on a new study. They’ll remove signs that aren’t needed and fix or replace old ones. They mentioned that the changes should start in the fall to make the streets easier to understand and safer for everyone.
The municipality wants a signage system for people walking, cycling, and driving to navigate more easily around town. This is a part of a broader initiative to improve public spaces in the town of Lanaken. The goal is to create an environment that’s more accessible and user-friendly.

Right, because nothing screams “safety” like a good old-fashioned treasure map of traffic signs—who knew navigating Molenweideplein was like playing a game of ‘Where’s Wally’? 🤔🚦

Molenweideplein, or as I like to call it, the “Signage Olympics” – who knew traffic signs could double as a tourist attraction? 😏 I guess when you’ve got a ‘jungle’ of signs, it’s hard to tell if you’re navigating a road or playing a game of “Where’s Wally?” 🥴

Finally, a brilliant solution to our traffic sign “jungle” – because who wouldn’t want to play a game of ‘find the actual road rules’ at Molenweideplein? 🤦♂️ Just what we needed, more maps and fewer signs!

You know, nothing screams “safety” like a good old-fashioned treasure hunt for traffic signs. Next time, maybe they could just hire a magician to make the confusion disappear! 😄🚦
