BRUSSELS – The European Union has urged for a de-escalation of tensions in Venezuela and advocates for a peaceful, democratic resolution, according to Antonio Košta, President of the European Council.
“I am closely monitoring the developments in Venezuela with significant concern. The European Union calls for a reduction in tensions and for the situation to be resolved in full compliance with international law and the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter,” Košta stated on the X platform.
He affirmed that the European Union will persist in supporting a peaceful, democratic, and inclusive resolution for Venezuela. This comes after American forces conducted airstrikes in Caracas and other regions of Venezuela overnight, leading to the removal of President Nikolas Maduro and his wife, as announced by US President Donald Tramp on January 3.
