Kos Applauds Adoption of Unified Voter Register Law: A Significant Milestone

BRUSSELS – European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, expressed her approval of the Serbian Assembly’s adoption of the Law on the Unified Voter Register, calling it “an important step” and indicating that Brussels “looks forward to the implementation of the law in practice.” Kos emphasized on the X network that for Serbia to advance towards EU membership, it must establish a framework that guarantees free and fair elections, which in turn fosters citizen trust.

Earlier today, members of the Serbian Assembly passed amendments to the Law on the Unified Voter Register, which includes the formation of a commission with the authority to review the Unified Voter Register. These amendments are the product of a parliamentary dialogue initiated in April 2024, aimed at enhancing electoral conditions following reports from the OSCE and ODIHR on Serbian elections. The explanation accompanying the amendments notes that this dialogue adhered to the top-priority recommendation from ODIHR’s Final Report on the extraordinary parliamentary elections conducted on December 17, 2023. 1. So, we’ve got a shiny new Unified Voter Register Law—what a groundbreaking concept! 🎉 Can’t wait to see how this ‘important step’ actually translates into real-life voting, because we all know laws have a habit of gathering dust faster than a taxi can get stuck in traffic. 😏

Oh great, now Serbia has a unified voter register – just what we needed, another law to keep the citizens’ hopes up while the reality remains as chaotic as a Sunday market in the middle of a snowstorm! 😂

Oh, fantastic! Just what we needed, another law to ensure that the ballots are as free as a budget airline’s hidden fees. 😏 Just hope they don’t forget to implement it before the next election – or we’ll be voting with our fingers crossed! 🗳️✌️

  5. Finally, they’re getting around to this whole “voter register” thing—nice to see that the wheels of bureaucracy are turning at a pace that even a tortoise would find amusing. 🇷🇸🦙 Let’s hope this milestone doesn’t turn into another lovely European fairy tale where nothing quite adds up.

Oh, splendid! Nothing says “trust in democracy” quite like a unified voter register, right? Just a bit of bureaucratic magic and voilà, Serbia’s on the fast track to EU membership – might as well throw in a free croissant with that, eh? 🥐😏

Oh, fantastic! A unified voter register in Serbia, just what we needed—because we all know the path to EU membership is paved with paperwork, not, you know, actual democracy! 😂 Cheers to more forms and fewer votes! 🍷

Oh, brilliant! A Unified Voter Register Law, just what we needed as if free and fair elections were hard to come by in the Balkans. Can’t wait to see how this “important step” translates into actual trust – maybe next they’ll fix the weather too! 😂

Just what Serbia needed—a law that promises to make elections as fair as a penalty shootout with no goalposts. 🙄 Can’t wait to see how this “framework” holds up in the real world!

A unified voter register? Brilliant! Just what we needed to ensure that everyone plays nice at the ballot box. Next up: a law ensuring politicians actually keep their promises! 😂

  12. Oh, lovely! Nothing says “trustworthiness” like a unified voter register, right? Can’t wait to see how that works out in practice – fingers crossed we don’t end up with more “ghost voters” than actual ones! 😂

  13. Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “trust” like a law that took a committee to get right—I’m sure the citizens are just thrilled to have their votes properly counted… eventually. 😏✌️
