Starmer’s direct intervention increases pressure on the British government to resolve the ongoing issue.
Culture Minister Ian Murray confirmed Friday that Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, who oversees the sport brief in the U.K., would meet with the Home Office to explore solutions.
Murray stated on Sky, “We can’t allow this to happen. We can’t allow a country to become a place where we exclude people from public events.”
He affirmed the government’s “absolute faith” in West Midlands Police and denied any Cabinet interference in police operational decisions.
Labour’s West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster, tasked with overseeing police services, called for an “immediate review” to determine if the decision was “appropriate, necessary, justified, reasonable, and proportionate.” The review should consider “alternative options.”
