Israeli Operations in Occupied Palestinian Territory Continue to Have Severe Impact

Israeli Demolitions in the West Bank Displace Families

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has reported that Israeli forces have begun demolishing over 16 buildings in the Nur Shams refugee camp. This comes after the destruction of more than two dozen homes in the occupied West Bank over the past week.

Displaced families have taken refuge in public shelters in Jenin and Tulkarm, where many struggle to obtain basic necessities, according to a recent assessment by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

“Less than half of those surveyed by our teams could afford food, leading many to reduce or skip meals. Additionally, children are unable to attend school,” UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric told reporters during a briefing in New York.

Humanitarian Assistance

Since the Israeli military operation began in January, humanitarian organizations have been providing essential aid, including food distribution and daily meals.

More than 5,000 families have received financial assistance to cover basic needs. Relief efforts also include providing bedding, hygiene kits, water storage tanks, and mobile latrines in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Tubas.

Movement Restrictions

OCHA has highlighted that the ongoing closure of the Tayaseer checkpoint, in place since February, has severely restricted movement for over 60,000 Palestinians.

On the first Friday of Ramadan, these restrictions prevented thousands of worshippers from reaching religious sites.

Although Israeli authorities have granted some Palestinians access to East Jerusalem and the H2 area of Hebron, they have imposed strict conditions, including numerous metal barriers and entry requirements based on age, gender, and possession of Israeli-issued permits.

OCHA teams are monitoring the situation to assess possible protection risks and explore ways to facilitate movement, particularly for the most vulnerable individuals.

Aid Blocked from Entering Gaza

In Gaza, humanitarian groups have raised concerns over the complete closure of all border crossings for nearly a week, which has halted the delivery of critical aid. The situation has further worsened conditions for civilians who have already endured prolonged hardship.

“It is essential that humanitarian aid is allowed to enter Gaza without delay,” Dujarric emphasized.

Under international humanitarian law, Israel, as the occupying power, is obligated to ensure that essential supplies reach civilians, including by allowing the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Isn’t it just charming how demolitions can really bring a community together? Who needs a stable home when you can have the thrill of spontaneous relocation! 😂
