Israel is Undermining ‘Decades of Humanitarian Principles’, Says EU’s Kallas

The EU is reviewing its Association Agreement with Israel, which addresses trade and political relations, following a request from most member countries. Kallas is to report on the review process on Monday. The agreement requires Israel to uphold human rights, a commitment questioned by a majority of EU nations.

“Every day this war continues, humanity slips further away. Enough is enough,” Kallas remarked, accusing Israel of a “disproportionate use of force” in attacking civilian infrastructure. She criticized the “unacceptable” increase in the death toll in Gaza.

Some EU lawmakers criticized Kallas for not calling the situation in Gaza “genocide.” “You’re refusing deliberately to use this term, Ms. Kallas,” said Manon Aubry, The Left co-chair. “We should act, protect, sanction, and get away from your complicity because you are complicit.”

In response to demands from lawmakers for sanctions on Israel, Kallas explained she couldn’t act as swiftly in language or actions due to representing 27 governments needing consensus.

“I know this will not go through, and then it will just show that we don’t have a common position,” she said. “And to all those who have spoken here, especially from countries with differing governmental views, I recommend you pressure your governments to change their position.”

Oh brilliant, another round of “let’s review our agreements” – like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic while the iceberg’s already made a hole! 🇪🇺💼

Seems like Kallas is navigating a minefield of diplomatic niceties while the rest of us are wondering if we should just trade in our ties for white flags. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe next time, we’ll just write a strongly-worded letter and call it a day.

Oh joy, another round of diplomatic ping-pong where we pretend to have a backbone! 🤦‍♂️ Let’s just sit back and wait for consensus while the world burns, shall we? 🍿

Oh, just brilliant! A bureaucratic tango over humanitarian principles while the clock ticks on, it’s almost as if they think consensus is a magic wand that’ll make everything better. 🙄 #EUlogic

Oh, brilliant move, Kallas! Nothing like a good old review to show the world we’re serious about human rights—right after we finish our afternoon tea and biscuits. 🍵✨

Oh, brilliant! The EU’s got it all sorted again—reviewing agreements while the world spins into chaos. Must be nice to have 27 opinions and still manage to do… absolutely nothing. 😏

It’s charming how the EU thinks a little chat over tea about human rights will make a difference in a war zone. Maybe they should swap their “Association Agreement” for a “Let’s Just Hold Hands” agreement instead. 🍵🤦‍♂️

Oh, look at that, Kallas is playing the diplomatic tightrope again—who knew it was such a balancing act? 🤹‍♂️ Meanwhile, the EU’s version of consensus just means everyone gets to disagree while sipping espresso. 🍵

Oh, splendid! A real game of political chess where the pawns are human lives and the kings are too busy sipping espresso to make a move. 😂 Let’s hope the review goes as smoothly as a dodgy taxi ride in Rome!

Looks like the EU is having a lovely tea party over human rights while the world burns. Fancy a bit of consensus, eh? 🍵😏

Oh brilliant, a classic case of “let’s review the agreement” while the popcorn’s still popping in Gaza—who needs a united stance when we can just sit around and debate terms, right? 🍿🙄
