Israel, Greece Seal €3B ‘Achilles Shield’ Defense Deal

Greece has valued the deal at €3.035 billion, with 19 Greek companies already participating, contributing over €750 million, and plans to establish a domestic production base for equipment exports. Defense Minister Nikos Dendias stated that Greece will be “the first country in the European Union to adopt a similar system.”

The deal strengthens the rapidly growing security partnership between Greece and Israel.

In January, Greece and Israel decided to enhance collaboration on drone and underwater-vehicle swarms, cyber threats, military exercises, and defense technology, aligning with Greece’s “Agenda 2030,” a comprehensive plan to modernize the armed forces and increase domestic weapons production.

Athens is advancing beyond other European buyers of Israeli air defenses. Germany purchased the Arrow 3 system in 2023, and Finland acquired David’s Sling in 2024. Greece plans to be the first EU nation to integrate several Israeli platforms into a unified national shield for protection against ballistic missiles, aircraft, and drones.
