Developments on the Ground
- In addition to morning and midday gatherings, as night fell, demonstrations erupted in many neighborhoods of Tehran and in several other cities, including Isfahan and Shiraz, with protesters chanting “Death to the Dictator.” In some areas, security forces attacked demonstrators using tear gas.
- In Tehran, young insurgents confronted repressive forces in at least 30 different locations across the city, pushing back attacks against civilians and engaging in direct clashes with regime mercenaries.
In the Nezamabad neighborhood, the confrontations were particularly intense, and several government centers were also targeted. - In Dareh-Drij (Kermanshah) and Gilan-e Gharb (Kermanshah Province), clashes between young insurgents and forces of the IRGC and special units, which had begun on the night of Friday, January 9, continued until the morning of Saturday.
- In Izeh, intense armed clashes were reported. The sound of gunfire echoed throughout the city, particularly around the Red Crescent Square, the main focal point of the fighting, where courageous young protesters stood their ground against regime forces with determination.
- In Khorasan Razavi Province, on Friday night, in some areas of Mashhad, young insurgents attacked police stations and destroyed surveillance cameras and other equipment belonging to the repressive forces.
- In Fars Province, the city of Shiraz witnessed violent confrontations. In Ma’ali Abad, regime forces fired live ammunition at civilians.
- In Kermanshah, 41 citizens wounded by gunfire are currently hospitalized in one of the city’s hospitals.
- In Gilan-e Gharb, several government buildings and an IRGC vehicle were set on fire. The provincial authorities were unable to deploy reinforcements.
- In the holy city of Mashhad, large crowds took to the streets and clashed with regime forces. In several areas, security forces were forced to retreat.
