Iran has decided to prohibit the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency from accessing its nuclear facilities and to remove surveillance cameras, alleging that Israel’s government acquired “sensitive facility data,” as reported by the media on Saturday.
Hamid Reza Haji Babaei, the vice speaker of the Iranian parliament, announced the decision on Saturday during funerals for top military and nuclear experts killed by recent Israeli attacks, as reported by Mehr news agency.
A ceasefire has been reached between Israel and Iran following a 12-day conflict. Israel had targeted Iran’s heavily fortified nuclear sites with drones and warplanes to prevent the regime from developing a nuclear weapon, which led to retaliatory actions against Israeli cities by Iran.
Iran had previously permitted the IAEA to inspect its nuclear sites and employ advanced monitoring devices as part of the nuclear deal it signed in 2015 with France, Russia, the U.K., the U.S., Germany, and the European Union to control its nuclear activities.
The first Trump administration withdrew from the agreement in 2018. Iran had previously threatened to remove surveillance cameras during recent discussions on its nuclear program.
